nature's miracle ingredient

The last few weeks we've discussing the powerhouse ingredients Bee Farmee uses in all of our solid lotion bars. It's truly (and nerdily) been a blast for me to sit and take the time to type out why I love all of them so much and why they're all so important in our bars and for your skin. First of all, thanks for letting me do so, and secondly, I'm kind of sad that we're wrapping it up after this. I have a feeling I'll be doing this again with our liquid products and some of our other favorites, so keep an eye out for that in the future. Until then, let's talk about... COCONUT OIL! My favorite versatile oil to exist.

Before we go there, if you haven't read our past weeks' blogs, I highly recommend doing so, so you understand the full scope of what we're doing here. Here's a very condensed recap:
  • Because of all the harmful chemicals and synthetic/manmade materials known to be detrimental to our overall health as a whole found in most commercial bath and body products on the market today, there's been a drastic and uplifting pendulum swing in the right direction when it comes to skincare. Bee Farmee is proud to be a part of the revolution and has tirelessly crafted something that we can all feel good about. Our honey harvests play just a small part in what we're doing, but we consider ourselves lucky to have gained the knowledge and knowhow to continue to support the change with our value-added product. You can read more about that here: why-we-choose-nature-part-one.html and one more here: why-we-choose-nature-part-two.html
We've been focusing on the ingredients found in our baseline products and solid lotion bars. The OG of Bee Farmee and still one of my favorites, and customer favorites, too.

  • Now that we're all caught up, let's talk about how awesome coconut oil is and why we use it in every solid product we create! Like I mentioned earlier, coconut oil is so versatile. You can eat it. your pets can eat it, you can use it fry, bake, condition your wood furniture, condition your hair--you think of it, coconut oil can probably do it. It's readily available at almost every grocery store and considered sustainable.  It's one of those win/win/win ingredients.

So what part does it play in our Bee Farmee solid lotion bars? A HUGE one. Remember last week when I told you that it's the trifecta of ingredients that makes the product as a whole work? They have to work together. The beeswax is the glue, the shea butter is the healer, and the coconut oil is the one who ensures both healing properties and an easy glide as a solid lotion.  Let's talk about the healing properties of coconut oil:
  • When you think about the health benefits of coconut oil, the last thing that comes to mind is rubbing the edible plant grease all over your skin and hair. But dermatologists, natural beauty devotees, and a growing body of scientific studies are starting to bring the plant’s potential to light.
  • “Coconut oil is comprised of a unique combination of natural fats, which makes it useful in treating the skin,” explains Joshua Zeichner, M.D., director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. These fatty acids include linoleic acid (which can be beneficial for acne-prone skin) and up to 50% lauric acid (which is hydrating and antimicrobial), he says.
  • Studies show that coconut oil—which is extracted from the meat of mature coconuts—may improve skin barrier function and repair, has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, fights the signs of skin aging, and makes an effective moisturizer, per a 2018 review of research published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences.
  • And, well, coconut oil smells like cookies. “Is there anything more luscious than coconut oil?” says Tieraona Low Dog, M.D., a founding member of the American Board of Integrative Medicine and the Academy of Women’s Health. We can’t really can’t think of anything—but we can think of amazing beauty uses for coconut oil that don’t require spending a fortune. In fact, all you need is one thing: Raw (and preferably organic) virgin coconut oil.
Like we mentioned before, everything we do here at Bee Farmee is in its most natural and raw form. For us, organic and raw is the most precious thing we can do for our skin and bodies. We love coconut oil, we love Raw African shea butter, and we certainly love our beeswax and honey. Everything we do is for betterment and to, hopefully, help normalize natural products.

Before we wrap up, there's one last mention and something I feel strongly about as well. We only use the purest of essential oils in all of our products and lotion bars. Synthetic fragrance is not something we're on board with, and it irks me to death when something is labeled and/or marketed as "fragranced with essential oils," when it's obvious (to me, I guess, since I'm working with them all the time) that's untrue or misleading. As conscious consumers, we always need to be doing our own investigating, asking questions, and knowing the full source of the products we're putting on our bodies. If ever there's any questions about ingredients we use here at Bee Farmee, please, and always reach out to us. We love talking with you.
So I guess that wraps up this round of ingredients! Thanks so much again for taking the time to learn about what we're doing here at Bee Farmee. We're super easy to reach over at our Facebook if you ever have any questions!

We'll talk soon!
